Michael spent time with Seymour Football Netball Club U14 & U16 teams, talking all things umpiring.

An amazing experience on Sunday for GV umpire Cody who had the opportunity to umpire with AFL umpire Nick Brown.

Nick is the GVFUA’s AFL ambassador for the 2025 season and has been supporting Cody over the last few weeks.

Nick jumped straight of the plane from his AFL game and headed up the highway to the Wandong Junior Football Club V Mooroopna Football Netball Club U16 game to officiate with Cody. Following the game Nick presented Cody with a shirt signed by all the AFL umpires.

Thanks Nick for your continued support of our group & taking the time to umpire with Cody. Cody’s smile showed how much he enjoyed it.

These umpires are under 14/16/17/18 players, who officiate Under 12 games.

On this day in 2016, in very tragic circumstances, Greg Sidebottom, who was officiating as one of the field umpires in the KDL senior game between Ardmona and Undera, collapsed, and despite the best efforts of those involved, sadly passed away.
“Sidey” as he was known around the GVFUA, was a life member of our association and was in many ways was the face of the GVFUA, as he tirelessly went about meeting and greeting all the new members and their families.
“Sidey was a true gentleman and had a heart of gold, he had a positive attitude that is rarely seen. Everything he did he did without fuss.
The work Greg has done with the association over a long period of time as a coach and recruiting umpires of all ages has helped ensure that the GVFUA is the strong association it is today.
Greg will always be remembered and forever missed by the umpiring and greater sporting and local communities.

Aiden Maksacheff joined the GVFUA in 2023, officiating as a Boundary umpire.
In his second year with the group he officiated the GVL Senior grand final in his second year.
Aiden has already taken on a leadership role with the boundary group, offering advise to new umpires & assisting with coaching drills at training.
Keep an eye on Aiden in the next few years, he has the ability to take his umpiring to the highest level.
Join Aiden this season and umpire locally in 2025.
